Serving Persecuted Christians Worldwide - Iran: Hami - Open Doors UK & Ireland

Write to Iranian children

Please note that this campaign will end on 1 September 2020.

Imagine a young boy called Hami*. His parents are Christians, but in secret. That’s because in Iran, becoming a Christian or sharing the gospel is dangerous - you could end up in prison.

Hami’s family belong to a small house church that meets at Pastor Milad’s* house, but that means Pastor Milad is taking a risk. In fact, they are all taking a risk by meeting together.

One day, Pastor Milad is arrested. Now, what will happen? What should they do next? Watch our new film Hami’s Story and share it with children in your family or church.

Send a picture of hope

Stories like this are common in Iran, where it is dangerous to follow Jesus. That’s why Iranian Christians need our prayers – and encouragement. Please pray for children like Hami and encourage children in your family or church to send pictures of hope.

Ask children to think about what it means to be a child of God, who loves and protects them. Then create a picture that sends a message of hope to Iranian Christian children. Here are some suggestions for what you can send:

  • A self-portrait
  • A drawing inspired by a Bible story or verse (don’t write the verse on the picture)
  • An image of hope.

This is a digital encouragement campaign so all drawings will need to be photographed and sent to drawingsforchildren@opendoorsuk.org

Please don’t send physical drawings as we won’t be able to send them.

For security reasons, please observe the following guidelines:

  • You can put first names on drawings, but don’t add anything else – do not provide your address.
  • Don’t add any messages or Bible verses to the pictures.
  • Do not mention Open Doors on any drawings.
  • Do not send money or make offers of help.
  • Do not mention anything to do with the news, religion, politics or government

*Hami and Pastor Milad are characters created for this short film to show the problems for Christian children in Iran. They are not the real names of Christians who’ve had this experience. However, this story is based on the many true experiences of children, families and church leaders in Iran and is an accurate reflection of what can happen to Christians in house churches there.
